MEET THE CREATOR

Josiah Lebante is a 19-year-old filmmaker and content creator from the island of Palawan, Philippines.
His work focuses on storytelling through cinematic vlogs, travel films, tutorials, and product reviews.

What inspired you to start your content creation journey?

I started making videos when I was 10, just random, funny clips that felt hilarious back then. I was inspired by YouTubers and dreamed of becoming one myself, hoping to earn money and buy my dream gaming console. My dad, a photographer, also influenced me. Being exposed to cameras early on sparked my curiosity about the creative world behind the lens.

Can you walk us through your early days as a content creator?

When I started, I used my phone to share simple tips on cinematic videos. I later borrowed my dad’s DSLR to try vlogging and experiment with VFX. I also made editing tutorials and uploaded everything to YouTube. Most videos barely hit 200 views, but I didn’t mind, I genuinely loved the process of creating and sharing what I learned.

“Just keep on creating and follow your passion.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting out?

One of my biggest challenges was staying motivated when my videos got very few views despite all the effort. It made me question if it was worth it. I also didn’t have my own gear and had to borrow from my dad, which wasn’t always available. Still, I learned to work with what I had and kept going.

What is your creative forte and how were you drawn to it?

My specialty is creating cinematic videos with smooth transitions, VFX, and stylized visuals. I was drawn to this style because I grew up during the rise of cinematic travel films filled with eye-catching effects. That trend inspired me to learn those techniques. Over time, it became my signature style—something I truly enjoy and continue to explore creatively.

What was your first piece of content that gained significant attention?

The first content that gained attention was a short film I made in 11th grade called Extraordinary. It’s about a boy who gains superpowers from a ring and saves his friend. It went viral and remains my most viewed video! I think what made it stand out was the VFX I added, people were surprised that a group of students pulled off that level of production.

What’s your process for brainstorming new content ideas?

My process starts by watching movies or content from other creators. I find inspiration through observing, whether it’s a cool shot, unique transition, or eye-catching effect. When something stands out, I take note and think about how to recreate it in my own style or build a new concept around it. It’s a mix of studying, experimenting, and letting creativity flow from the things I enjoy watching.

What’s been your proudest moment as a content creator?

When I had my first viral video and hit millions of views. It changed everything; my followers grew, opportunities came in, and my work got noticed. Going from barely any views to millions felt surreal. Another moment that stuck with me was getting recognized in public. When people asked for selfies, I realized how much my content was truly connecting with others.
